I've seen the [Ryukyu Dynasty picture scroll procession] held the other day on Kokusai Street.
This event, which is often known by Okinawa lovers, is held every year around November 3 (Culture Day), and this year 2023 was the first revival in four years.

The procession of a total of 400 people is amazing!

The Ryukyu Dynasty picture scroll procession, which reproduces the gorgeous scenery of Kingdom of ryukyu as a large picture scroll procession, has a total of 400 participants, including the king and queen, as well as colorful costumes such as Sanshin and Ryukyu dance, walking around Kokusai Dori! Approximately half of the people, or 180 people, were selected through public offerings. The king and queen were also recruited every year by public offering.

The glittering procession progresses in line with Ryukyu classical music is truly a masterpiece! I did it. I was able to experience the excitement as if I had slipped back in time during the dynasty.

Shuri Castle Reconstruction Festival

■Old-fashioned procession [Ryukyu Dynasty Festival Shuri]…Depart from Shuri Castle Park and walk around Shuri Castle.

Date and time: Nov. 3, 2023 (Fri./holiday) 12:50-15:30

Location: Shuri Castle Park Honjinmon-mon-Moriemon-mon-Ryutan-dori

Traffic regulation: Yamakawa Intersection-Toribori Intersection 12: 30-20: 00 (Yamakawa Intersection-Tokura Intersection until 18:00)

■King, King and Queen…The king and queen dressed in vivid costumes appear in front of Bonjinmon.

Date and time: November 4, 2023 (Sat.) 110:00 to 2 11:00 to 3 12:00 (about 10 minutes each time)

Location: In front of the temple

 

■Ryukyu Dynasty picture scroll line…The gorgeous appearance of the Ryukyu dynasty is reproduced as a large picture scroll procession.

Date and time: Sunday, November 5, 2023 12:30-14:30

Location: Naha City Kokusai Dori (traffic regulation time: 12: 00-15: 00)

 

■Shuri Castle Reconstruction Special Tour…You can see the main hall in the middle of the restoration.

Date and time: November 4 (Sat) and 5 (Sun), 2023 13:00-2 15:00-

Location: Wood warehouses, interiors of bare roofs, etc. (reconstruction work area)
